A clip of a deer ‘stealing’ a man’s wife took YouTube by storm, becoming an instant internet hit.
The randy deer tried to mount the woman, charging across the shot as her husband looked on in disbelief.
Lu Lu the dog with the diva attitude Miniature pinscher Lu Lu proved to be an unlikely doggy diva – insisting on walking on two legs and carrying a handbag.Despite having four fully-functioning limbs, Lu Lu strode through the Chinese city of Zhumadian on her hind legs.Paw outstretched, she strutted across town with a teddy bear bag on her ‘arm.’ Classy.
Newsreader mistakes dead cow for polar bear
Cows and polar bears are pretty easy to tell apart, right?
Well not if were ITV Cornwall newsreader Naomi Lloyd.
She reported live on air that a dead polar bear had washed up on a beach near Bude, but in fact the body was that of a cow, bleached white by the sea water.
A spokesman said: ‘It was a bit embarrassing. When we realised what it was, we pulled the slot straight away.’
Bears ‘guard’ cannabis fields
Police in Canada found themselves dealing with some unlikely criminals, when they discovered a gang of bears guarding a marijuana farm during a raid.
Five police officers had been called to the marijuana plantation to dismantle the farm and arrest two men, but found themselves confronted by 13 black bears.
Fortunately police soon realised that they showed no signs of aggressive behaviour and were in fact tame.
Squirrel does Saturday Night Fever Dance
We’ve seen an array of cute animal pictures at Metro this year, but this was one of our favourites.
Polish wildlife photographer Marek Paluch captured this red squirrel pulling out dance moves that would make even John Travolta himself jealous.
Crime-busting parrot fights off burglars
In an interesting alternative to a burglar alarm, Russian interpreter Gennadi Kurkal was saved from being robbed by his pet parrot’s squawking.
Thieves managed to steal his wallet by reaching through a window, but were stopped in their tracks but Kuzya the parrot when they tried to enter his London home.
The protective bird let out a massive scream, sending the criminals scarpering.
Rabbit whisperer can put bunnies in a trance
One of this year’s strangest animal stories was the tale of Cliff Penrose, who claimed to be Britain’s only rabbit whisperer.
The 60-year-old claimed he was able to hypnotise bunnies by applying pressure and massaging certain parts of the body, including the belly, which relaxed them.

The anxious bunnies were put into a trance so that they rolled on to their backs with their legs in the air.
Penrose also treated ‘problem’ rabbits with behavioural issues.
Cat with can on its head finds its way to rescue centre
Staff at an animal rescue centre in Fife were amazed when a lost cat managed to find its way there – despite having its head stuck in a food can.
The cat had apparently got stuck after tucking in to a discarded tin of cat food.
The disorientated moggy avoided being hit by passing traffic, miraculously managing to stumble across the Scottish SPCA rescue centre.
